I’m Not Comfortable With That …
“I’m Not Comfortable With That…” @everyone
(A Love Letter to Catholic Moms Group Leaders )
Sometimes, in coaching sessions or in training workshops, I make a suggestion to a Catholic Moms Group Leader—and I get the look. You know the one. Or there’s a long pause on the phone, followed by a hesitant:
“Umm… I’m not comfortable doing that.”
And because I know our leaders are wonderful, self-giving volunteers, I bite my tongue and stop myself from saying what I really want to say (which is somewhere between a motivational speech and a gentle nudge with a spiritual cattle prod).
But today, I’m saying it anyway… lovingly, of course!
Let me ask you a few questions:
- Are you willing to do whatever it takes to help your Catholic Moms Group grow and thrive?
- Have you ever done something uncomfortable in your professional life because it was necessary? Did you survive? (I’m guessing yes.)
- Did you become a leader to GROW? To stretch? To learn new skills—even the ones that make you a little squirmy?
Here’s the thing: the very thing you’re uncomfortable doing might be exactly what God wants to use to bless your group—and YOU.
Stepping outside your comfort zone doesn’t always feel great (hello, awkward phone calls!), but it can be holy. Fruitful. Even fun—eventually.
Let’s be honest: the saints were thrown into lion pits, shipwrecked, and literally martyred. And here we are, nervous about calling a mom to invite her to a meetup or following up with an email to see if she’s planning to attend to your upcoming meeting!
Speaking of which…
Have you ever picked up the phone and personally invited a mom to your group?
Not just one call. I mean calling until you actually speak to her. Gulp.
Would you try it? Why or why not?
Sometimes, the only thing standing between a mom and her life-changing connection to faith… is your voice on the other end of the line.
Take a look at the graphic below (you did see it, right?).
What jumps out at you?
What’s holding you back from taking that next step?
Let’s stop hiding behind “I’m not comfortable,” and start asking,
“What would God do with me if I trusted Him—even just a little more?”
Look how often this phone number called me!
Lastly think of the hundreds of times JESUS himself has nudged YOU, chased you in creative, loving ways. Stop to think about that. What are you willing to do for Him?”I’m Not Comfortable With That…” @everyone
