5 Ideas for Your Mothers Group During the Month of May
Every year we host a “Mary Party”. We have a crowning of Mary liturgy (not mass) which includes at least one decade of the rosary and everyone processes around the yard while singing “Immaculate Mary”, and then lays their flowers (representing prayer intentions) at the feet of Our Lady’s statue. Then the kids all let loose on the tree house, zip line, swing set and soccer nets while the adults enjoy kicking back with some beverages. Potluck, friends and fun. The moms from our group bring all their families and we usually have about 80 people show up – not sure what our neighbors think.
This year we are going to watch a video on St. Gianna Molla. She is a Catholic doctor, Catholic mom & saint. I think it’s important to introduce moms to real Catholic women are SAINTS! Encouraging them to develop a relationship with remarkable women in heaven, that can help them here on earth, is so rewarding. Most moms in today’s culture have no idea of the supernatural power that is available to them through the intercession of saints.
We have asked our pastor to give a talk at our Mothers Group. It’s special because we don’t have a speaker every month. Because it’s a special meeting, we have created a poster and distributing it in local schools too. We made sure it’s getting into the church bulletin. Fr. Peter Paul will be speaking on Our Lady – Model of Motherhood.
I wanted to do something special for the moms in my Mothers Group this year. I went ahead bought some mugs and I am going to fill them up with some treats for the moms in my group. I just love the moms in my Mothers Group, it’s going to be fun doing this. I just can’t wait to see the smiles on their faces. Mothers are so appreciative when you do the littlest thing for them!
Mothers do so much giving, I want to give a little something to them!
This year, after all the Masses during one weekend in May, we are going to make announcements about the mothers ministry at our parish. We will have a table at the back of the church, displaying ministry materials. We will also have a clipboard to collect email addresses so moms can sign up to get our our email reminders. We are creating a special flyer for our May meeting so moms can pick it at the ministry table.
