9 Ways to Conduct a Back of the Church Check Up! Plus Some!

Oct 5, 2017

Whenever I conduct training sessions for Mothers Group Leaders, I often talk about doing a Back of the Church Check Up!

What do I mean by that – well, it’s exactly what it sounds like. If I were a mom, standing at the back of your church, would I see evidence of your Mothers Group? Would a new parishioner be able to find out about your Mothers Group, at the back of the church?

As a Mothers Group Leader, constantly refreshing materials at the back of the church is vital to the success of your Mothers Group.

Ask yourself these questions to learn about the 9 Ways to Conduct a Back of the Church Check UP!

Is there a poster advertising your Mothers Group, up at each (inside) entrance of the church?

Do the Mothers Group posters have the correct up to date, dates on them?

Are there any take away materials (brochures, invitations, flyers, newsletters) laying around at the back of the church for the moms in your parish?

Do the materials have your (the Mothers Group Leaders) contact information?

Do you refresh the material at the back of the church – so that every so often there is new information, a new flyer?

Do you have business cards, (with dates of your Mothers Group meetings on the back) pinned to the bottom of the posters? This way, moms can take them and stick them in their purse for future reference!

Have you talked to your parish priest, at the back of the church, inviting him to bless your Mothers Group or give a short reflection?

Have you introduced yourself and extended a written personal invitation to moms, at the back of the church, after Mass giving them a hand written invitation to your Mothers Group?

Have you learned about other ministries advertised, at the back of the church, contacting them and informing them about your Mothers Group?

Remember to conduct regular Back of the Church Checkups!

Listen to this powerful short video to learn the importance of a simple sign. A poster at the back of the church, has helped our ministry grow on more than one occasion!

Does your Mothers Group meeting get put into the parish bulletin, with enough notice to allow moms to attend?

Is your Mothers Group listed on the parish website?

Have you formally introduced your Mothers Group to other ministries in your parish?

If not, why not?
