I can’t believe I am doing this

I can’t believe I am doing this, but I have been asked to lead a new ministry at my parish. The St. Benedict Mother’s Group has launched and I am excited about this new ministry. Often I have reflected on what God’s plan is for me. How can I serve Him better? What can I do to help my parish and my family grow in faith and to serve God? When I was asked to do this, I simply said “yes.” There was no hesitation, just a desire to serve and connect with other Catholic moms.

As mothers we give so much of ourselves to various aspects of our lives: our families, our careers, our friends, and other interests that sometimes, we do not take the time to cultivate our spirituality. Mother’s group is an opportunity for like-minded women of faith to gather together and grow in their spirituality and to strengthen their relationship with God and Mother Mary.

Our modern society is very individualistic in nature. People have to do things “on their own,” and we don’t share our struggles and successes with each other. We tend to erect barriers instead of building bridges to connect with people. We have become too insular and independent. We need to stop this and build connections with others who share the same values and beliefs. We need to be more like Mary and Elizabeth—women who supported each other, loved each other, and shared their joys and hardships with each other.

Mothers are by their very nature nurturing. Mother’s group will give you an opportunity to foster nurturing friendships through thoughtful prayer and discussion. We are an open and warm-hearted group of moms at the parish and welcome newcomers to the group. When we come together in love and with open hearts, the Holy Spirit performs miracles by growing that love exponentially. Come out to a mother’s group meeting and grow in the spirit of Christ and Mary.
